The CRIC annual event will be in hybrid form again this year with some colleagues returning to Harris Manchester College in September and others coming in on-line. This will be our 10th Annual Conference and as geo-politics has changed dramatically since 24th February 2022, this year also sees important changes and developments in CRIC.
The Annual Conference in September each year is a very successful and eagerly anticipated calendar commitment for many colleagues around the world and so, while the wider work of CRIC as a centre, originally based at Harris Manchester College has been absorbed into the activities of The Changing Character of War Centre at Pembroke College (www.ccw.ox.ac.uk) and The Concord Foundation (www.theconcordfoundation,org), CRIC will continue as the Conference on the Resolution of Intractable Conflict, still held each year at Harris Manchester College, but with support from CCW and the Global Humanity for Peace Institute at the University of Wales Trinity St David.
The character of war been changing, but this demands a change in the character of peace building too. CRIC and CCW have been exploring the nature of these changes with other colleagues here in Oxford and also with CMI – the Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation, based in Helsinki. In the upcoming conference colleagues will share the work they have been doing through the past year and their plans for 2023 – 2024 and beyond, but we will also have as our theme- The Changing Character of War and Peace Making. Attendance and presentations will again be by invitation but, as has been our practice in recent years, we hope to make selected papers and presentations available afterwards on our CRIC YouTube Channel – https://www.youtube.com/@cric-oxford/featured – and as journal publications with the New England Journal of Public Policy – https://scholarworks.umb.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1702&context=nejpp .
